Batman BeyondSet fifty years in the future of Batman animated universe, Batman Beyond tells the story of the second man to wear the title mantle. ...well, in this case, more of a boy.Terry McGinnis is your average teenager, as most heroes are before they don the spandex. He has a girlfriend, a father he doesn't get along too well with, and attends the local high school. While on a date with said girlfriend he entices the wrath of the Jokerz, a gang styling themselves after Batman's most well-known villain. Terry escapes them with the help of an elderly man living in a large mansion. After helping the man back into his home Terry discovers a mysterious cave hidden deep underneath the building. The man is Bruce Wayne, once the Dark Knight of Gotham, and it is he who Terry returns to after his father is murdered. Terry becomes the next Batman and takes up the task of protecting a dark, cyberpunk Gotham from fittingly unusual and dangerous villains. Along with a three-season animated series, the Batman Beyond canon consists of a 24-issue comic series, a movie (Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker), and crossovers with three other DCU animated series.
Terry McGinnisTerry carries the title of Tomorrow Knight with the one thing Bruce Wayne was missing: a sense of humor. But he isn't all wise cracks and witty comebacks. Before donning the cowl Terry was a rebellious trouble maker; prior to the series he spent 90 days in juvenile hall. Keeping his defiant nature in check is his sense of justice -- as much as he smarts off to the world in general Terry can't stand to leave a wrong unrighted.Terry's official position is Bruce Wayne's personal assistant -- a cover for his Batman operations and the time mysteriously spent away from home. While this seems to work for his mother and brother, Terry's girlfriend Dana takes serious issue with her boyfriend's constant vanishing act. Terry finds his life torn in two and that he is unable to live both at once -- and that unfortunately, Terry McGinnis must take a back-seat to Batman. The last we see of Terry is, oddly, in a Justice League Unlimited episode entitled Epilogue. We learn that Terry, along with sporting a seriously Elvis-esque appearance, is Bruce Wayne's biological son through a project created by Amanda Waller -- the Batman Beyond project. The last scene in the episode is Terry soaring through Gotham clad in the Batsuit.
