Vagrant Story is a Playstation action/RPG hybrid game released in 2000 by Square-Enix. But they were probably Squaresoft at the time. It was developed by the same team behind Final Fantasy Tactics and though it isn't officially recognized as part of the Ivalice canon the similarities are hard to ignore.
The game follows protagonist Ashley Riot as he pursues cultist Sydney Losstarot through the hollowed ghost city of Lea Monde. Ashley becomes increasingly aware of a presence known as "the Dark"; a power sought by many but controlled by one. Even as Ashley learns of tangled alliances and betrayals, he begins to question his history and the very things he held as "truth".
Sydney Losstarot
Sydney is the charismatic and theatrical leader of the cult Müllenkamp. He can spin prophecies and sing the past in a person's heart and through this has won the devotion of his followers. It is Sydney who leads Agent Riot on his chase through the haunted city and his own memories. His purpose isn't half as awe-inspiring as he makes everyone believe but he ends up sacrificing himself for it anyway.
