In "The World"

Character Name: Sakaki
Class: Edge Punisher
Weapon: Heavenly Dawn
In-Game Voice Actors: Crispin Freeman (English), Katsuyuki Konishi (Japanese)

Sakaki's chosen class in "The World" is the Edge Punisher. Edge Punishers wield huge broadswords capable of inflicting massive damage. They excel at cracking open armored foes and single, powerful strikes. However, to balance out this power, Edge Punishers are much slower than other classes. Their defense is high and they can equip the heaviest armors of the game.

Username

"Sakaki" is another name for the Cleyera japonica, a type of shrub, that has a unique place in the Shinto religion and history. Branches of sakaki are used as offerings, for purification, decoration, and as "props" in dance. It plays a part in the story of Amaterasu, the sun goddess, locking herself in a holy cave. Other deities used a sakaki sporting 500 branches as part of a plan to lure her out by decorating it with jewels, offerings, and a mirror.

Player Character

Sakaki's online persona is the epitome of everything his real-life self wishes to be... but also everything he hates. He is charming, graceful, kind, and respected. But he is also selfish, bratty when he doesn't get what he wants, and underhanded. On some level, Sakaki knows he's doing wrong to do good, but he rationalizes it by saying a little pain is worth the results. Until he became infected by AIDA and his schemes spiraled to envelop the whole of "The World" he might have had a point. He seemed to have done some good, an example being reforming Matsu the "Flame Sword Demon".

When he isn't being taken over by crazy computer viruses, I get the feeling Sakaki is a righteous, if narrow minded, snob. He looks down on PKers and PKKers and denounces PvP outside of the arena. When Haseo first encounters him in Mac Anu, he's certainly a nosy and obnoxious busy-body, but he's also a far cry from the raging lunatic of Redemption. We can't forget he is fairly bright. While Ovan did feed him AIDA and plans to blackmail CC Corp, Sakaki was a member of Moon Tree's top counsel before the game began.

Sakaki's online persona ties heavily in with who he is in the real world. His perceived strong will and sharp mind against PK and PKK are just misinterpretations of a child's black-and-white righteous ideals. Despite his intelligence, eloquence, and power, Sakaki is more the player than the character. As bright as he is, his emotional maturity has yet to catch up to his brain.
