Rise & Fall

Sakaki is introduced as a normal player. He is part of Moon Tree's governing body but I doubt at this point Ovan has taken any interest in his activities. Though they are each a different canon, I think the G.U.+ manga supports this idea. After Haseo receives Ovan's shortmail and storms away from Sakaki and Atoli, we see Ovan himself standing on a roof top watching the two. This may be hinting at his interest in Atoli as an Epitaph User and Sakaki as his role in awakening her and furthering Haseo's growth.

Sakaki and Haseo's relationship is established as antagonistic from the beginning. Haseo doesn't fall for Sakaki's act and Sakaki can't stand it or his PKKing record. However, in the interest of furthering his goals, Sakaki contains himself and Haseo is frankly uninterested in him whenever he isn't around.

It's never explicitly stated but it is my belief that sometime during Rebirth Ovan approached Sakaki about Epitaph Users, G.U., and AIDA. Though he doesn't specifically name any of these things until the beginning of Reminisce he does take Atoli to the Tri-Edge sign at Δ Hidden Forbidden Bulwark and ask her to listen for the sound she hears, which we later learn is AIDA. I assume Ovan had something to do with that, as it eventually lead Haseo to "Tri-Edge".

Factions

It's hinted or outright said throughout the story that there is a rift between Moon Tree members. There are those who are loyal to Zelkova but there are many more who follow Sakaki unquestioningly. Few suspect he may be an act; most fall to his charisma, kindness, and uncompromising position on PK and PKKing. It is this blind sheepish loyalty, and a little "help" from Ovan, that leads to Sakaki turning Moon Tree's area into a miniature AIDA server.

In the beginning of Reminisce, AIDA transfers all the players logged into "The World" onto its own server, and traps their consciousness in the game for a brief period. The members of G.U. recognize that their small forces are not enough to handle this problem and reach out to Moon Tree for help. At Moon Tree's area, Sakaki flaunts his knowledge of G.U. and AIDA easily. When confronted by Kaede, he says he had to make sure the information was accurate before sharing it.

After Haseo enters the Holy Palace tournament to defeat Sirius and take Atoli's epitaph back, we find out Sakaki has inserted his own mole into the arena: Bordeaux, who has been infected by AIDA. Though she rants and raves about taking out Haseo, he seems interested only in her winning the title match. I believe Sakaki also wanted Atoli's epitaph back. Not for her sake, but for the sake of his plots.

After the title match, Sakaki leads Atoli to a deserted part of Moon Tree's dungeon and oh-so-casually brings up the many things that have happened as a result of her Epitaph being stolen. Bordeaux became infected by AIDA and as a result, Alkaid was PKed and became and Lost One. Sirius became infected by AIDA and players he battled in the arena became Lost Ones. Why, even the entire "World" was thrown into chaos when AIDA snatched away the players from both legitimate CC Corp. servers and the real world, a feat only possible due to the power of Atoli's Epitaph. If it weren't for her, none of that would have happened.

Atoli is shattered and exposed by her idol's harsh words and Sakaki is swift to take advantage of the situation. He infects her with AIDA and uses the power of her Epitaph to turn Moon Tree's area into a miniature AIDA server. He wants to use AIDA to rule peoples' hearts online and eventually offline; to turn both "The World" and the world into pictures of Moon Tree's peaceful ideals. He'll have his perfect world where no one suffers, even if he has to infect every last person himself. Awesome pacifism there, Sakaki.

After using Atoli's power to PK guild leader Zelkova, his coup is swift. Only units one and three, lead by Zelkova and his right-hand woman Kaede, stand between Sakaki and a complete take over. Unfortunately for them, Sakaki has his own unit, as well as Matsu's unit seven, Hiiragi's fifth unit, and Sophora's sixth unit on his side. Only Nala's unit four remains neutral until the coup.

It isn't long before Haseo and the gang show up to restore order and take down Sakaki. Though he flees, they follow him to Θ Hidden Forbidden Dragonbein, where he infects himself with an AIDA strain. Despite this, he loses the battle and vanishes over the mountain's edge.

Not that it's the end of him.

Sakaki<Zenith>

Kind of like a bad zit on picture day, Sakaki returns in Redemption bigger and crazier than ever. Haseo receives an email shortly into the story from Pi calling an emergency meeting at Raven's @home. It seems Yata has had his system admin privileges revoked and has vanished in both the online and offline worlds. As G.U. discusses what to do, they hear Yata's Serpent of Lore booting up.

However, instead of their familiar leader they find Sakaki waiting for them. He has become so infected with AIDA his character's body has changed drastically and his emotional stability has deteriorated. Unfortunately, his mind and acting abilities are as sharp as ever, and reading from Ovan's script has gained him control of both the Serpent of Lore as well as "The World" in its entirety. He demands the Epitaph Users bow and pledge absolute loyalty to him. They refuse, and he laughs, only telling them that he will always be watching.

From this point on, I believe Sakaki is acting on Ovan's orders and suggestions in exchange for AIDA seeds and promises of power. Sakaki organizes the PK tournament and all but forces Haseo to join it. If he doesn't, Sakaki will release AIDA seeds throughout "The World", putting every player at risk.

But he doesn't stop there. Haseo's opponents are strategically chosen to strike at both his fighting skills and his heart. Sakaki plays the part of the taunting antagonist to a T and it works wonderfully. Haseo finds more strength than ever before in the face of his toughest opponents and hardest battles.

While this works well for Ovan's processes, Sakaki is not so pleased. Haseo succeeding in the face of his efforts drives him insane. However, he is willing to let this slide so long as he feels he has the upper hand. Endrance and Sakubo, previously Haseo's comrades, are on his side. He has control of "The World" and plans to eventually spread his rule beyond the game and even beyond the internet. Using the power of AIDA he contorts players' hearts and wins majority approval for his PK tournament. He laughs at how easy his sheep are to herd and revels in his power. Somewhere along the line, Sakaki completely forgot his long-term goal of a "perfect world" and became more obsessed with his own abilities than the state of society. AIDA has no small amount of blame to take for this.

It isn't until the Sage Palace title match that AIDA finally takes him over completely. Haseo is beaten and bloody at his feet as Sakaki raises his own blade to strike him down personally when Endrance figuratively and literally stabs him in the back. It seems he had been biding his time and waiting for a chance to cut down Sakaki; of course he would never betray Haseo. The shock, humiliation, and anger opens Sakaki's heart to AIDA and his engulfed in his own power. He transforms into AIDA<Victorian> and only through the combined efforts of Haseo, Endrance, Atoli, and Kuhn can Skeith defeat him.

Robbed of his power, Sakaki finds himself in an outer dungeon, where he meets Ovan. He begs for more power, determined to never be so humiliated again, but is met with only a cryptic remark. Ovan logs off as "the pursuers" appear. Aura's Azure Knights dispatch Sakaki and the character is never seen in "The World" again.

Opposing mirrors of hope and despair

Though Sakaki is never seen again his player is. In the final webisode of Online Jack we learn Toru Uike and his five classmates have been found and are resting at a hospital after being treated for "Doll Syndrome". None of the children have any memory of recent events and our last shot of Toru is that of a smiling, carefree child. More about the Online Jack episodes can be found here.
