.hack//G.U. is a RPG taking place in an MMORPG. Yes, that makes it a video game about players in another video game. Do yourself a favor and roll with it.

G.U. is a trilogy following the story of Haseo, a player in an MMORPG called "The World", from his very first fated login. Players in "The World" are being infected by a being called AIDA and eventually even the real world is threatened. Not that fighting for the fate of the world saves you from annoying job extension quests or hours of waiting for a drop.

But Haseo's story spans more than just the three games; .hack//Roots is a twenty-six episode anime series focusing on a time period skipped by Rebirth's prologue. In addition, there is a manga adaptation of the series called .hack//G.U.+ as well as a movie adaptation, .hack//Trilogy. This site focuses on Sakaki's appearances in the three games... mostly because he has yet to really appear anywhere else except G.U.+.
