basch & noah
Basch and Noah fon Ronsenburg are characters from Square-Enix's Playstation 2 RPG Final Fantasy XII. For anybody not on the downlow, Basch is the crazy old guy you find in prison and Noah is Judge Gabranth, his evil twin. Natives of Landis, the two brothers were separated following the fall of their country. Basch left for Dalmasca, where he eventually made the rank of Captain and served directly under Prince Rasler. Noah joined the ever-expanding Arcadian Empire and took up their mother's maiden name, eventually becoming the Judge Gabranth we all know, love, and need a dictionary for.
But their history is far from over. In the name of the empire, Noah frames Basch for the murder of Dalmasca's king, leaving him branded a traitor and hated by the kingdom he had come to defend. Skip two years; Basch is rotting in a cell just waiting to be found by our intrepid hero Vaan and his merry band of skypirates.
After some daring adventures and the rescue of a "dead" monarch, the fon Ronsenburg brothers come face to face, once again on opposite sides of a struggle. Basch fights for the Princess Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca and for his honor. He follows her to the ends of the earth on her journey to reclaim her fallen kingdom. On the other end of things, Noah as Judge Magister Gabranth is charged with the protection of the Archadian royal family and one of Vayne's right-hand men.
That is, until encounters with his brother force him to reassess his lot in life. Noah sees Basch as having no honor left. Both his homeland and adoptive countries have been absorbed into the Empire, he is hated or considered dead by most of the populace, and his future rides on the slim shoulders of a young princess. But much to Noah's surprise, Basch continues to fight, for what in the Judge's eyes amounts to nothing.
It is when Noah realizes how much honor and pride Basch has that he recognizes he has none of his own. In the party's final fight against the Lord Vayne himself, a wounded Gabranth fights alongside his brother for the last time. In the chaos following Vayne's defeat and the freeing of Dalmasca, Noah passes away due to wounds he received in battle. His final words are for his twin, asking him to look after the Empire's new ruler Larsa Ferrinas Solidor, the world's only hope for peace.
The epilogue takes us a year later. Basch has taken over the roll of his twin, becoming Judge Gabranth and personal guardian of Lord Larsa. It's now Larsa's duty to rule over the Archadian Empires considerable power while remaining peaceful and Basch's duty to ensure he may live to do it.

The Likely Lads is the fanlisting for the relationship between Basch and Noah fon Ronsenburg, also known as Judge Magister Gabranth. How you appreciate their relationship, whether as brothers, rivals, friends, etc, doesn't matter, this list covers it all!
Because I'm uncreative with titles, the title for this site came from a song. Specifically, What Became of the Likely Lads? by the Libertines. You can find the lyrics here. I guess the song can sort of relate to the twins but uh, I mostly just thought "The Likely Lads" sounded neato.
