Instead of quietly making his way to the Xenothium and avoiding the Titans, a logical and energy-saving venture, X all but invites Robin to chase him. To add to the thrill of leaping through scarlet security beams, trick floors and long pit falls. X wanted Robin to chase him to give his adrenaline that much more reason to pump madly through his body.

The events in the latter half of X support this as well. Why else would he have helped Robin to defeat Chang? To try to get a do-gooder badge pinned to his chest? No, Red X was in it for the thrill. He knew it would be he and Robin, alone, against whatever Chang could throw at them. No Titans for back up. Nothing between he, Robin, and a cannon capable of turning a city block into dust.

Red X liked those odds. It was something he'd never done before, something he might not be able to do.
