selfish? Is Red X selfish? Yes and no. He begins both of the episodes he appears in looking out for himself. In X, by stealing the suit he's giving himself a new toy to use in his chosen profession. In Revved Up, he announces his plans to win Robin's stuff and sell it. In both instances, he's gaining something, and unlike most villains, it's not world domination or a strange, skewed victory. It's just plain making money and having fun doing it. But both times he gives up his own schemes to help Robin. He shows up to save Robin from Chang's cannon, helping to defeat the scientist and his henchmen while exchanging witty dialogue. In defeating the villains in the Ding Dong Daddy's race, he's giving Robin room to focus solely on winning back his briefcase. Red X has a dual nature. He can be selfish and selfless, but either way, he does it because he wants to. He wanted to play the hero, so he did. And he wanted the steal the suit, so he did.
In the end, X is completely unrestricted by a 'hero' or 'villain' title. He's just Red X. |
