Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

It is 2010 a.t.b. and the Holy Britannian Empire rules much of the world when it invades Japan with its fearsome weapons known as Knightmare Frames. Britannia colonizes the island nation and renames it "Area 11". Seven years later, the Japanese people are known only as "Elevens" and live under Britannia's rule. Lelouch Lamperouge, a prince of Britannia thought dead, swears he will one day rise to power and defeat his own homeland to find his mother's killer and create a world where his younger sister Nunnally can live in peace. He is given Geass, the ability to control others, by a mysterious girl named C.C. With his new power, Lelouch decides he will rally the Japanese people to defeat Britannia.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is a 50 episode anime series created by Japanese animation company Sunrise featuring character designs by CLAMP. It follows Lelouch as he becomes the masked terrorist known as Zero and leads his Black Knights against Britannia. It also follows Lelouch as he stumbles his way through daily physical activity, adolescent social interaction, and big ass mecha battles. Code Geass is about the tragedy of war and friends fighting friends. It just doesn't always know it.

Lloyd Asplund

Lloyd Asplund is an Earl in the Britannian Empire and weapons designer among their forces. He created the seventh generation Knightmare Frame called the Lancelot. Perky and hard to read, Lloyd takes the war going on around him in stride. Or maybe it's more of a jig. His behavior is callous and brutally honest but he always has a smile on his face.

Lloyd's research and development group is called Camelot and operates under the patronage of Prince Schneizel el Britannia. As mentioned previously, he developed the Lancelot, an elite Knightmare Frame rivaled by few others in the world. The Lancelot is Lloyd's pride and joy to a disturbing extent and he is very concerned with seeing its full potential in use. In fact, Lloyd views its pilot, intrepid hero Suzaku Kururugi, as an extension of the machine; a part it needs to function.

When Lloyd allows himself to be serious we see a pragmatic man who is very aware of the world around him. As Suzaku is lead toward execution for a crime they know he didn't commit, Lloyd can only tell Cecille they'd best "cut [their] losses". He prefers to keep his distance but when he must become involved it is with an air of indifference and dismissive honesty. There seems to be more to Lloyd than odd mannerisms and even hints that he is an actual human being.

Lloyd is portrayed by Tetsu Shiratori in the Japanese language version of the show and Liam O'Brien in the English dub.
